This year’s sensational performances showcased the achievements of many children and young people. Their commitment, determination, energy and enjoyment were clear for all to see. They were flying!

The mix and blend of set pieces, reflecting the breadth of dance opportunities at KBSK, were carefully choreographed. The evening programme was packed with dances from Junior and Senior Academies, both separately and together, social classes, Kinsman outreach group, duets and solo dances, ballet, lyrical dance and solo singing.

Children as young as four years old attend Baby Ballet classes. The ballerinas, in white dresses and waving colourful ribbons, gave their all on stage, supported by members of KBSK’s Youth Board.

Perhaps a form of dance unfamiliar to some, lyrical dance, is part of KBSK’s repertoire. Three words to describe it are emotional connected movement. Slower than commercial dance, a fast, beat dance that’s a cross between jazz and hip hop, lyrical dance is more like motion, telling a story through a passionate routine.

A member of the audience said: “The youngsters are so enthusiastic on the stage, especially the little ones, who are full of beans. I’m so glad they have something positive to do. One of my granddaughters is a KBSK dancer and she thoroughly enjoys it. I’m thoroughly enjoying the show too!”

He added: “I didn’t know about the show until earlier this evening. I was going to watch the football on the TV but I’m glad I came.”

Several KBSK directors watched the performances. One director, Paul, said: “What a great evening! It’s amazing to see the wonderful show the team and young people have pulled together. It’s been encouraging to hear what KBSK means to those who have shared their views on stage between acts. It’s a privilege to be part of the KBSK family.”

The audience, filling the venue to the brim, were not afraid to show their appreciation. This is hardly surprising due to exceptional performance standard of KSBK’s performing artists.
